While in Michigan, CSC Correspondent Rick Weaver covered the Downriver Dream Cruise, one of the largest held every year in the Metro-Detroit area. It was a fourteen hour event that took place on Fort Street (a six lane boulevard) starting in Lincoln Park, and concluded at the Southgate-Riverview boarder some five miles away. We saw a bunch of Turbo Regals and plenty of Gbody cars (our normal requirement [wishful thinkings] when attending car shows). It doesn’t happen too often that we can publish a post that ONLY has our top 4 categories of vehicles in it (hence us having to put whatever is neat at the specific venue we are at in the car show posts we make).

Join us as we head up the Northeast Cape Fear River to the upper reaches of the black water system of this mysterious river. Official event hours are from 9 am to 9 pm, spanning the communities of Taylor, Dearborn Heights, and Redford Township.
Many cars and crowds will also gather the evening before for an unofficial kickoff. An official event for most of its history, each event held since 2017 has been unofficial as a result of increasing expenses incurred and lack of profits by each of the communities along the cruise route. The 2017 and 2018 events had another factor, in the form of increased traffic along Fort Street due to a prolonged partial closure of Interstate 75, which parallels Fort Street in the Downriver area, during those two years. Although I-75 had since fully reopened by the time of the 2019 edition, the event remains unofficial, and this status has allowed the 2020 edition to continue to move forward in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. People lined the streets all along the way to watch and cheer for their friends and favorite vehicles.
The Fort Street Cruise is an annual event that takes place through several Downriver communities. People with vintage, classic, custom, modern muscle, exotics, tuners, tricked-out, or otherwise interesting cars cruise through the main thoroughfare of Fort St (M-85). The cruise stretches between Southfield Rd. and Sibley Rd, passing through Lincoln Park, Southgate, Wyandotte, and Riverview.

A Complete Guide to Cruise Line Drink Packages - Cruise Critic
If you plan on drinking more than three or four cocktails and a few premium coffees, the package pricing is likely your best deal. As of October 8, 2023, Carnival Cruise Line has implemented price changes for its Cheers! The price per person per day for short cruises (3, 4, or 5 nights) has increased by $10 compared to previous pricing. When purchased before sailing, the new price for the package is $69.95 per person per day, and when purchased onboard, it is $74.95 per person per day. However, it’s worth noting that for cruises departing before December 1, 2023, and for longer cruises, the price remains unchanged at this time.
Cheers! Beverage Program
They specialize in cocktails with a distinct Miami twist and are made with Miami-sourced ingredients. The Amari Bar is an elevated, Italian-themed cocktail bar currently only available on the Carnival Venezia. Amari Bar replaces the popular Alchemy Bar and but still features 5 of that bar’s more popular cocktails. Plus, the more points you earn, the more benefits you will get in addition to free drinks, like private invitations to Carnival Premier Cruises and tournaments. Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper are also usually added to the list for cruises departing the ports of Galveston and New Orleans. Other considerations include the length of the cruise and how many ports of call are on the itinerary.
Is the Carnival Cheers package worth it?
Most cocktails tend to be around $12-$14, so you only have to drink six fruity beverages per day to break even. Plus, you're able to enjoy non-alcohol drinks, too, such as specialty coffees, mocktails, energy drinks, soda, and more. If you're planning on consuming more than usual, drink packages can often help save money while giving you peace of mind during your cruise. Viking makes it on our comparison list because its Silver Spirits Beverage Package is the most economical of all the cruise lines.
SkyBox Sports Bar
No, the package only works for beverages served on the ship. Even though Carnival has private destinations for its guests like Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays, the drink package doesn’t work there. It also doesn’t work in regular ports of call like Cozumel or Nassau. If you are sailing from Galveston or New York, you might have heard there are strange laws affecting alcohol sold on cruise ships. Carnival recently bumped up the price of the package on shorter cruises of five days or fewer. In this case, the price is $69.95 per day (plus gratuity) if bought ahead of time or $74.95 per day (plus gratuity) if you buy on the ship.
Yes, Carnival Cruise Line promotes responsible drinking and aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests. To help you figure things out, we’ve put together the Drink Package Calculator to make it easier to estimate whether you should purchase the package. Truth is, you’d be hard-pressed to find a beverage above $20 unless it’s made to serve multiple people. Package varies based on the length of the cruise and when you buy. On the Mardi Gras, Celebration and Jubilee, it’s been upgraded to a two-story pool-side venue called the RedFrog Tiki bar with a slightly different menu (see below). The RedFrog Pub is the Caribbean-themed indoor bar that’s located on the lower level of many Carnival ships.
Package offers a 25% discount on premium drinks and wine priced above $20, allowing you to enjoy high-quality beverages at a reduced cost. Whether you’re a fan of classic cocktails, craft beers, or fine wines, the Cheers! Package ensures that you can indulge in your favorite drinks throughout the entire duration of your cruise.
Cruises
And, perhaps more to the point, how much do cruise drink packages cost? Read on for the answers in this ultimate guide to cruise drink packages. Nearly all the major mass-market cruise lines offer flat-fee drink packages that, in some cases, can save you money when cruising. The exceptions are Disney Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages, though both offer alternative ways to save on beverage purchases.
Whether you’re a beer lover, wine connoisseur, or cocktail enthusiast, the Cheers! Package ensures that your thirst is quenched with endless options. You’ll have the freedom to explore different flavors and try new drinks without having to worry about the cost. One other thing to factor is the convenience of having a set price. Some people may not come out ahead with the package based on how much they drink, but like not having to worry about what the bill will be at the end of the cruise. Drink packages allow you to better plan your costs and budget given that the cost is the same each day.
The Classic Package includes alcoholic beverages up to $10 per serving, specialty coffees and teas, juices, sodas, bottled water, and a 10% discount on wines by the bottle. The Premium Package offers a wider selection of beverages including top-shelf brands up to $17 per serving and a 20% discount on bottles of wine. Princess has bundled its beverage packages with other onboard perks into a new pricing option.
Packages may not be shared, are non-transferable and non-refundable. Packages do not include room service, mini bar purchases, vending machines, or pre-cruise wine bottle purchases. Packages can be used in onboard restaurants, lounges, bars and Great Stirrup Cay, though not on Harvest Caye, nor sailings that are two days or less. When deciding on a drink package, consider the benefits and inclusions offered by the Cheers! Package, such as unlimited spirits, cocktails, beer, and more. However, be aware of the restrictions and exclusions that apply, including the daily limit of 15 alcoholic drinks and age restrictions.

If you wait to get the package once on board, it costs $74.95 per person, per day. So, if one guest in the stateroom wishes to purchase a beverage package, each adult in the cabin that’s old enough needs to purchase one as well. Cruisers must be 21 years of age or older to purchase the Cheers program (alcoholic beverage package). If you pre-purchased a Carnival drink package, it will be activated upon boarding the ship. You should head to a bar once onboard the ship for a sticker which will be placed on your Sail & Sign card. Prices do not include the standard beverage service charge, though prices are inclusive of applicable taxes.
The Bottomless Bubbles package includes unlimited soda and juice throughout the cruise. In summary, the Bottomless Bubbles package is a great choice for those who want unlimited access to soda and juice during their Carnival Cruise. With affordable pricing and the convenience of being able to purchase the package in advance or onboard, it’s a fantastic option to enhance your cruise experience. The package does not place a daily limit on sodas and other nonalcoholic beverages. To get the most bang for your buck, you'll have to consume a minimum number of beverages each day.
The principal released a statement on behalf of the school, saying that the University Lab School community was praying for Robbins’ safe return. “He’s an athlete, great kid, great smile, great head of hair,” George told the station WBRZ. University Lab School Director Kevin George said Robbins attended the school for all 13 years of his education and was a pitcher on the school’s baseball team. At one point, the person in the water appears to turn and swim in the opposite direction of the lifesaver ring that was thrown overboard. A search party was was initially launched but on May 27, the United States Coast Guard, who had been assisting the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in the search, confirmed that the search had been concluded. U-High baseball coach Justin Morgan issued a statement following the tragedy.

That is until he vanished behind the boat and out of view of everyone, who began screaming at him to grab a life preserver that'd been thrown to him -- which was pretty far away, and he didn't end up reaching it. Sunday's memorial service will begin at 4 p.m., with visitation hours between 2 and 4 p.m. He has "been here throughout his entire educational career. He's an athlete, great kid, great smile, great head of hair. Just one of the kids you're so proud of when they cross the stage," George said. "None of the experts consulted can definitely say what's in the video due to the quality and length of the video," Trascher said. "The Robbins family has requested that we not entertain that theory any longer, so our official position is that we don't know what happened while Cam was in the water."
Haunting image surfaces after Cameron Robbins jumped off ship into ‘shark-infested’ water
“I have been in touch with Cameron’s family and at this time, authorities are still searching for him in the Bahamas,” George wrote. As CrimeOnline previously reported, Cameron Robbins, who had just graduated from University Laboratory School (U-High), jumped off the boat as a dare on May 24. A video obtained by DailyMail showed Robbins splashing in the water near the boat before he vanished. The Coast Guard assisted the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in search efforts by deploying aircrews. In a statement provided to The Independent, Jonathan Chia, a representative for Pirates’ Revenge Ltd, the parent company of Blackbeard’s Revenge, said Cameron went overboard at approximately 9.40pm local time in Montagu Bay off Athol Island in the Bahamas. The University Lab School Director Kevin George told WAFB that Cameron had attended the school for 13 years.
US teen missing after going overboard on sunset cruise in the Bahamas
The parents of an 18-year-old high school graduate who fell overboard on a sunset cruise in the Bahamas have broken their silence. A 15-year-old boy died by suicide after jumping from the balcony of a cruise ship onto one of the decks below during a voyage returning from a 5-night trip to the Caribbean and Bahamas. The US Coast Guard and local Bahaman authorities spent days looking for Robbins before calling off their search last week after scouring more than 325 square miles of ocean. As Louisiana high-school grad Cameron Robbins vanished beneath shark-infested waters after jumping from a boat in the Bahamas, someone yelled, “Bye, bye! Footage has surfaced showing 18-year-old Cameron Robbins -- who'd just graduated high school in Baton Rouge -- swimming in the open seas at night near Athol Island last week ...

Missing Louisiana Teen Cameron Robbins Allegedly Jumped Off Cruise on Dare.
According to witnesses, the teen — who was apparently acting on a dare — took a plunge off a party cruise into the ocean near Athol Island at night. A few hours after checking in, Robbins and the other newly minted high-school grads boarded the Pirate’s Revenge boat for an evening pleasure cruise near the uninhabited Athol Island, located north of Nassau. The footage captures horrified onlookers on the ship frantically yelling at Robbins to “grab the buoy,” but the teen appears to swim in the opposite direction — possibly encountering a shark next to him. Experts have told Fox News Digital there is a vast array of marine life, including dolphins, tiger sharks and bull sharks in those waters that feed off the scraps from the boats. A woman whose son was friends with Robbins and on the boat at the time told Fox News Digital that several students tried to grab Robbins before he took the plunge, but he broke free.

The teen also played baseball for the school, which operates as part of Louisiana State University. The US Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Defence Force spent several days searching for Cameron before suspending their efforts on 27 May. Following his presumed death, a memorial was planned for the teenager on Sunday (4 June). "A young man traveling with his family on board MSC Seashore appears to have died of suicide Wednesday evening. Our team immediately notified authorities and our care team is assisting the young man’s family on board. The party ship remained in the area for several hours while the crew looked for Robbins.
SEE IT: Video Shows Louisiana Teen Moments After Jumping from Cruise Ship, Search Called Off
The Baton Rouge 18-year-old was enjoying a sunset cruise with several hundred fellow graduates May 24 when he leaped overboard from a vessel designed to look like a pirate ship — apparently on a dare. The video, which has so far been viewed more than 10 million times on Twitter, is being scrutinized, with some indicating the video allegedly shows the exact moment Robbins is pulled underneath the water by a shark after jumping off a cruise ship near Nassau, Bahamas. The U.S. Coast Guard has ended their search for a Louisiana teenager who fell overboard from a sunset cruise in the Bahamas on Wednesday night. The Coast Guard called off its own search two days later, after reportedly scouring over 325 square miles.
An 18-year-old boy from Louisiana was celebrating his recent high school graduation during a sunset cruise in the Bahamas Wednesday when he reportedly jumped overboard on a dare, triggering a large-scale search. The small, pirate-lookalike cruise ship was anchored throughout the night, and the students were stuck at sea near the uninhabited island in what Royal Bahamas Defense Force Commodore Raymond King called "shark-infested waters." "We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends," the U.S. The teen fell off the Blackbeard's Revenge sunset cruise ship, the Coast Guard said. The Louisiana high school graduate who disappeared after leaping off a cruise ship into dark waters off the Bahamas last week may have met a grisly fate in the “shark-infested” area, a local official said.
Kevin George, the director of the school, told local news outlet WBRZ that Robbins was a "special kid." The video appears to show a shadowy object in the water move toward the recent high school grad, who was swimming toward a life preserver before changing direction. Cameron Robbins, who attended University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, was on a trip with a group of students when he went overboard on Wednesday night, according to school officials. A recent high school graduate from Louisiana is missing after going overboard while on a trip to the Bahamas, school officials and the United States Coast Guard said. Cameron Robbins, 18, went overboard while on a sunset cruise Wednesday night.
However, the cellphone footage is too dark and chaotic to definitively show what happened, and the theory is no longer officially being investigated at the request of Robbins' family, Brian Trascher, spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy, told Fox News Digital on Friday. George described Robbins as a "great kid" and athlete who had been with the school for 13 years, since the start of his education.
"The Bahamas government has called off the rescue for Cameron and we are returning to Baton Rouge," the family said in a statement. "We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends," Spado added. The ship was near Athol Island an uninhabited island located northeast of Nassau, according to WBRZ. Videos show Robbins jumping from the boat and swimming with a life preserver nearby.
He and several friends were aboard the Blackbeard’s Revenge cruise on 24 May when Cameron allegedly jumped off the boat on a dare. Cameron Robbins, 18, graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge in May and was on a trip to the Bahamas with students from several local high schools. The Blackbeard’s Revenge, which is designed to resemble a pirate ship, remained in the area for several hours while the crew attempted to look for Robbins. Three days later, Robbins and his friends joined graduates from other schools for a celebratory trip to the Bahamas, staying at the Atlantis Paradise Resort.
This is the highest figure in the region, with Cuba in second with 13 and Puerto Rico in third with 11. The boat stayed in the area that night for hours after the incident as people looked for Robbins. The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating claims that Robbins jumped overboard as part of a dare, according to WBRZ. Robbins graduated from the University Lab High School, which operates as part of LSU, on Sunday.

While this can be an exciting opportunity to explore unexpected destinations, I need to be open to these adjustments.

Other lines, such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, allow booked passengers to bid on potential upgrades. The lines decide, based on cabin availability, to accept or reject the offers as needed to fill unsold cabins. The most obvious incentive is a “free upgrade” promotion, where you can book an outside cabin for the price of an inside or a balcony cabin for the price of an outside.

Loyalty programs are a great way to get freebies on cruise ships. Before your first cruise with Carnival, you can join the Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) Club. It gives you access to special cruise offers, including discounts during an end-of-summer Carnival cruise sale.
Cruise lines have incentives to fill as many beds on their cruise ships as their capacity allows. Greater numbers of guests leads to more money spent onboard on drinks and extra-fee dining, spa treatments, the casino, shore excursions, and souvenirs. Norwegian includes a "last-minute cruise deals" category on its online deals page. Royal Caribbean's last-minute deals get their own page; scroll to the bottom to sign up for alerts, so you get first dibs on the offers. Read your Carnival cruise details and fine print before packing to make sure you are not bringing more than the allowable limit. In addition to alcohol, the Cheers plan includes specialty coffee, bottled water, soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails. Post-boarding Carnival Cruise promotions for booze are rare. This only applies to pre-booked excursions, and if you are claiming you found a lower price (and thus asking for reimbursement) it has to be for the same tour.
Are there any disadvantages to booking a last-minute cruise?
Being open to new experiences is pivotal on a last minute cruise. Cruise ships are hubs of endless activity and entertainment. From onboard shows to recreational activities, there’s always something happening. I always make a point of trying at least one activity I’ve never done before, which not only adds excitement but also creates memorable stories to share. Availability of staterooms is often limited, and I may need to be flexible with my accommodations.
If you’ve been monitoring cruise fares, you’ll know if this is an actual savings or if the cruise line raised the rate of the lower category cabin right before the sale. These short trips can be filled with culture, adventure, or relaxation. Booking excursions through Carnival ensures that they’re not only tailored to the time constraints of the cruise but also provide diverse experiences suitable for all kinds of travelers.

If you're on a route like Alaska, where everyone wants a balcony cabin with views, don't expect many of those to be available, either. The same applies to cabin types that are limited in number, such as family, spa or solo cabins. For itineraries in Europe and Alaska, look for deals early or later in the season, the so-called shoulder season. The crowds come late in the spring through August, with peak season in the summer. On the other hand, some of the best deals are before and after these time slots when the kids are back in school. Plan to sail later in September through December (with holidays an exception) and you'll likely find last-minute deals.
